Professional Mat
What is an alternative to MMA mats?
I was thinking of getting my fiance a mat so that he can have more room to do his mma things. He’s not a professional or anything, but he really loves sparring and practicing. However, he only has a folding mat, and it’s not enough to really get adequate movement. I’ve been researching alternatives to the really expensive mma mats. He doesn’t need a professional mat, but something that can ease throws and stuff. I saw puzzle mats, which is something I could get. is there anything else? or any other suggestions? thanks!

I bought the gymnastics tumbling mats off of a club that was going out of business and have used those for 9 years now. They still look great. no rips or tears and they have stayed really clean too.
Another alternative is high school wrestling mats. contact the coaches and let them know you are looking for a mat and to keep you in mind when they discard their old ones.
…and a third alternative is to check with tournaments who sponsor chinese martial arts. The larger tournaments will use brand new mats and then sell them for quite a bit cheaper after the tournament. Don’t know where you are located at but the Arnold Schwartzenegger tournament in Columbus Ohio takes place in March and they do sell their mats afterwards.
